KY Poultry Facts

Many Kentucky farmers raise poultry indoors to protect their birds from predators and weather extremes, and climate controls help keep birds comfortable.

Farmers raise chickens for meat (broilers) in open barns, but enclosure systems keep eggs clean and hens healthy.

Some farmers opt for organic and/or cage-free egg and/or poultry production.

At more than 1.2 billion, poultry is big business in Kentucky.

Turkey production is on the increase in Kentucky.
